Of all the La Jolla beaches, Windansea is my favorite, so when Nalinie and Sanjit, visitors from Toronto, Canada, asked for a recommendation for their babymoon, I confidently recommended it. Windansea is great for shorter sessions, and the sunsets there are gorgeous.
I usually start out with silhouette images if the sky is clear, and that was what I was setting Nalinie and Sanjit up for when I suddenly remembered one of the *cons* of this location. Rogue waves.
We weren’t even close to the water! We were right next to some other unsuspecting beach-goers who were lounging in chairs. NO ONE saw it coming until we were all completely soaked. Sadly, I didn’t take a single photo before we entered the splash zone, and I was too busy saving myself and my gear to take a cool action photo while it was happening. I’m super disappointed about that.

Here’s how Nalinie tells it: “We got pounded by a HUGE wave even before Amy could take the first shot! No one saw the wave coming, and I ended up getting soaked. Amy and Sanjit also got wet, too, but not as badly. We were able to salvage the rest of the shoot in my dress, but I’m also glad I had an extra dress to change into for a different look!”
Nalinie and Sanjit were hoping to capture the love and excitement they are feeling now as they prepare to become parents in December. “We wanted beautiful photos by the water/beach – very happy, dreamy, and just beautiful shots with the sunset and ocean that captures that San Diego vibe we don’t have back home in Toronto.”
As far as favorite photos, Nalinie said, “We loved all the ones of us walking along the beach and looking at each other/out into the sunset (especially where I’m wearing my yellow dress). Sanjit loves the seated photos of the two of us looking down and embracing the baby bump. All of the photos that Amy captured are just beautiful – especially the candid ones of us just happy and smiling!”
Nalinie and Sanjit met on a dating app five years ago during COVID. They knew very soon that they were in love, and they got engaged a year later and were married in 2022. Nalinie says, “It’s been an amazing three years married, and we are so excited for this new adventure as parents. As a couple, we balance each other out and always have each other’s back.” She describes their relationship as “compatible, supportive, and fun.” I absolutely saw that during our session!
While they were in San Diego for their babymoon, they stayed in La Jolla and explored the area. They also visited Coronado and took in as many sights as they could. They really enjoyed all the food and drinks and appreciated San Diego’s restaurants.
The way this couple handled getting soaked by a wave at the very beginning of their session makes me confident that they will be wonderful parents! They have the sense of humor and flexibility to turn lemons into lemonade during all the parenting adventures that are coming their way. Nalinie and Sanjit, I hope you find your way back to San Diego sometime for a family session!
