The Nielsens have been summering in Coronado for 19 years — same beach bungalow, every June and July — and I’ve photographed them several times over the years. This summer, Jeff, Jenny, Juliette (20), and Josh (16) went red, white, and blue for America’s 250th. Here’s Jenny on this year’s session:
What made you decide this was the year for beach photos? “We do family photos every year, but it had been a while since we did beach pictures. We chose red, white, and blue to remember the 250 celebration.”
What were you hoping to capture? “There is something special about the beach in Coronado and the Hotel Del. Looking at those pictures instantly takes us back there and reminds us of our summer traditions.”
Do you have a favorite photo from the session? “It’s so hard to choose! Maybe the one of the entire family sitting on the beach with the Del in the background. We have the same photo from a few previous sessions, and it is fun to see how we have all changed and grown over the years.”
Any milestones being celebrated? “Potentially our last summer all together as a family in Coronado, due to college and work.” Describe your family in three words: “We love Coronado!”
Did you do anything else fun while you were here? “We love spending time at the zoo and Balboa Park.”
I loved seeing Jenny’s family again this year, and I love how their session turned out! The red, white, and blue was so much fun for America’s birthday! Looking forward to our next session . . . I bet they’ll have another Coronado adventure (if not an entire summer) before long. It’s hard to stay away from that magical place. ✨
