IT’S A BOY!! My favorite image from this birth story is actually not of the baby at all, but of his bigger-than-life, red-headed brother, who had been kept in suspense about the baby’s sex just like the rest of us. Definitely scroll down for the video of Brandon finding out he has a BROTHER! I’m not a videographer, so the focus is questionable, but the emotion is all there. Brandon was ONE HAPPY DUDE.
I arrived on the scene about 6:30am, just in time to see John suited up to roll Camille into surgery at 7:30am. They didn’t let me go back there, so I set up my camera and sent it in with John. He took 8 pictures. He was busy becoming a daddy again!!
The eight pictures he took were pretty good!!
I settled back into the waiting room to find out the boy/girl news. Brandon and his grandparents arrived on the scene about then, and I took Brandon shopping for a present for baby. We got a blue owl rattle and a pink owl rattle, so we would be prepared either way. The gift shop lady was impressed with Brandon’s red hair and enthusiasm.
We knew we’d have to wait to see Camille and the baby again until they were out of recovery, but John was nice enough to come up and fill us in in the meantime.
Here’s where John tells Brandon the news:
Here’s Brandon with the BLUE owl rattle. (Anybody in need of a pink one??)
John starts the phone calls. Brandon shares the news with other family members with much enthusiasm. He tells his Nona that he has a sister. Oops.
At one point, we are actually asked to curb the enthusiasm (can you IMAGINE?). Oops again. Brandon took one look at this sign, heaved a huge sigh and said, “That’s not fair.”
So he settled down to read a book.
After an extremely long wait for a three-year-old, we got the news that Camille was ready for visitors!
We got stopped at the door to her room, but a kind nurse came by and presented Brandon with a Big Brother bracelet.
Happy grandparents, waiting too.
And here they are!!
Sweet baby!!
