We went to Maui for my dad’s 70th birthday and had a wonderful time! Beach photography is a lot different in Hawaii than it is in San Diego, but I loved it there too! Here are a bunch of photos. Some of them “real camera,” some of them iPhone, and most of them boogey boarding, because that’s what we did a lot of! Scroll down, down, down for the official “beach photo session” we did with our kids. The ones of my beautiful sister Melanie (of Melanie Monroe Photography) are some of my favorites EVER! She has a big birthday this month, too BTW.
First order of business at Napili Bay is always boogie boarding. . .
I have good parents. (Another day of boogieboarding.)
How to turn 70 in three easy steps:
Breakfast at the hotel. We stayed at Napili Village, where each unit has a kitchen. Breakfast burritos were on the menu. And bacon.
Steven loved feeding the birds.
My dad received a day of windsurfing instruction for Christmas, and my uncle and brother-in-law decided to join him. The rest of us went along for the fun of it, and we played on the beach while they had their lesson. When we got there, I noticed two artists working on paintings of the scene.
There was a rope swing there, too.
Here’s Melanie, with her giant beast of a lens, photographing the action.
A morning by the pool. #vacationing #unplugged
Tiny gecko!! We love the wildlife in Hawaii!
We caught as many sunsets as we could. Here are Lissa and Papa, hanging loose.
Steven has made a tradition of purchasing a ukulele in Hawaii, and Uncle Tommy has made a tradition of giving him some instruction. This time, we consulted YouTube, too.
Annabelle and Alexis hanging out at the hotel pool.
Lissa, reading a classic at the hotel pool. That’s my girl!
This photo is in honor of Rodney Deutschmann, teacher of the photography course Melanie and I took when we first started on our photo journey almost ten years ago. This sort of backlit subject against a dark background always reminds me of his classes. What an amazing teacher of photography he is.
The “Official” pictures. (Background people will be deleted in the next edition.)
And finally, some iPhone fun. My favorite iPhone shot of the trip:
Other photos of adventures not including the big camera.
We went on a snorkeling expedition on a boat! We saw dolphins!
Another day, we headed to the “blow hole” and hiked in flipflops. #iPhoneX
iPhone proof that I was on the trip! Lunch at the golf course, and ice cream and a pineapple store in Lahaina.
More iPhone proof of my vacation attendance.
The end! Thanks for looking at my vacation photos! 😀
