Every few years, Mario and I get to meet up for another senior session as one of her extremely good-looking kids heads off on their own adventure. I’ve now photographed three of them, and it’s become one of my favorite little traditions.
Leslie booked this session for her daughter Lily and her roommates. The girls met freshman year at USD and are about to scatter into whatever comes next.
Kaelyn knew exactly what she wanted for her senior portraits and sent me a Pinterest board ahead of time, which I love. Going in with a plan — especially one with this much personality — makes the whole session more fun.
Lydia and her mom drove from Phoenix to San Diego and back in a single day to make this session happen. The first attempt back in October had been rained out, and with graduation around the corner, this was the window.
My dear friend Melissa and I have known each other since we were in a college singing group together back in the 90s, and her daughter Olive is like her in so many ways.
Melissa reached out to book a grad session for her daughter Devin, who’s finishing up at the University of San Diego. Devin’s been chasing this dream for nearly two decades, and one location wasn’t going to cut it.
Sherri booked a last-minute San Diego trip and wanted to get her four kids on the beach before they grew another inch. This ended up being one of my favorite sessions of the year.
Tev and Marshall brought their crew all the way from Oklahoma for a Spring Break getaway at Hotel del Coronado — and we ended the trip with a sunset beach session that was absolute perfection.
Taylor and Lissa have known each other since they were four years old, and if you spend even five minutes with them, you can tell. There’s an ease between them, a shorthand, the kind of connection that only comes from growing up alongside someone — and then, somewhere along the way, falling for them too. They’ve been dating since their sophomore year, and now here they are, crossing the graduation finish line together.

But we walked away with a set of headshots that actually shows what Lissa can do — and that’s the whole point. She needs casting directors to see her range before she even walks in the room, and now she’s got the shots to do that.
Coronado Island has a way of holding on to family stories. For Melissa’s family, this beach already carried a sweet memory: the last time they were here, she was expecting their daughter. Coming back with two beach-loving kids made this visit extra meaningful.
