San Diego Engagement Photos with Jason & Katy At Coronado Beach
Congrats to Jason and Katy, who got engaged during a beautiful sunset on Coronado.

Congrats to Jason and Katy, who got engaged during a beautiful sunset on Coronado.

I loved photographing my friend and neighbor Ursula and her family! Her dancing daughter Bella did some amazing leaps in the sand!

Sweet friends with their sweet boy. So thankful for this wonderful couple who live next door to my mom and dad, and so thankful for the little brother on the way!

Last year, I was blessed to capture this little one’s birth story, and it was so much fun to see her again recently – all grown up into an adorable one-year-old! I met her mom and dad and older brothers for a beautiful evening on the beach at Coronado.

Congratulations to Meredith and Mathew! Their life together is bound to be marked by lots of laughter and dancing. I loved their ceremony on the beautiful campus of Point Loma Nazarene University. The pastor’s comments began with their parents’ words about their personalities and funny memories of their childhoods, and then both dads got up to read scriptures directly relating to marriage. It is a ceremony I will remember for a long time – very personal and touching. The reception venue, Tango Del Rey, was the perfect setting for Meredith and Mathew to dance the night away with their close friends and family (including Meredith’s seven brothers and sisters!). There was some serious celebrating going on!

Just a few months ago, I photographed Kruz’s baptism in La Jolla, and this last weekend I got to see his sweet family again as they celebrated his first birthday! This fun fiesta-themed party had lots of sombreros, mustaches, tacos, cupcakes, family, and friends!

What a pleasure to meet this beautiful young lady on Coronado. Such a natural in front of the camera . . . we had fun!

Nothing like doing your ring bearer’s senior pictures to make a person feel old. HOWEVER, what a fine young man he has grown into over the last eleven years! Uncle Rod and I are proud, Tim!

These girls!!! What a dream session . . . beautiful sky, lots of sand, and four amazingly camera-friendly faces. And at the end, they all *thanked* me without even a prompt from mom. I’m a sucker for good manners in kiddos.

Shortest photo session ever, with absolutely the most prep time. We may be (ahem) in our late thirties, but we still like to play, and my uber-talented friend Erin (of ChoirBox) and I had been brainstorming this session ever since she decided to cover over her previous (less awesome) tattoo with some serious art* (don’t try this at home, kids). Erin has a way with a bow and arrow, and she even MAKES these things . . . plus quivers and all sorts of other leather items. We felt that she should definitely design and sew herself an amazing dress to showcase the tattoo, commission a custom archery target made of natural woven fibers, and head out to the nearest field to take some good photos.
Upon our arrival, we stopped off at my second-favorite photo spot at that location before heading down the hill toward the big, open field. Half way down, we were accosted by a park ranger who, unfortunately, evicted us from the park for possession of a firearm. She was nice about it, but still – no big, open field. So that was sad, but we still had plenty of time to grab a few more portraits at photo spot #2. I love how they turned out! Happy birthday, Erin!
*From Erin: “Original art made by Chad Whitson based on Psalm 127:4 ‘Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth.’ The symbolism is as follows: two arrows; one for Noah, one for Sascha. Adam is the bow, I’m the quiver, God is the Archer.”

Beach photography always keeps me on my toes. Never boring! Whereas a field or park session is generally either 1) cloudy or 2) sunny, there are sooo many more options for beach photos. At Coronado, one of the major factors is the tide, especially at this time of year when the sun sets farther to the north. The combination of clear skies and high tide absolutely REQUIRES the clients to be really good sports. Fortunately, this familiy was just fine with getting a little damp, so everything worked out and we made some fun memories at the same time.

It was great to meet the V family, also clients of Marion’s Childcare! Three sweet boys, and one adorable little girl. Coronado is their favorite vacation spot, so I’m looking forward to seeing them again next year!
