Extended Family Beach Photos at Crystal Pier in San Diego
This sweet extended family was just full of the most gorgeous children . . . all perfect models . . . and all totally soaked by the end. Just the way I like it!

Now that I’m not ruining clients’ Christmas cards by blogging their sessions, it’s fun to look back at the very-busy month of November! This La Jolla family celebrated their baby’s first birthday with a beach session on Coronado. Their little one loved the sand and was even up for a little horseback riding on the shore. Adorable baby!! I hope I see them again soon!

Or, at least, a senior PHOTOGRAPHER’s delight. 🙂 I loved photographing Silas last week, along with his guitar and his little brother. A very low tide gave us lots of beautiful shiny sand to play with, and the gorgeous sunset made the sky beet red just as the sun went down. To top it all off, I saw the green flash for the second time in just a few months! This is a session I’ll remember for a long time!

This Tennessee family is so special to me, and I love watching little Summer grow! (Check out our 2013 Coronado session, here.) This year, Summer got a baby sister, Hallie, whom she obviously adores. So many kisses for sister!! It was a cold winter day on Coronado, but sunny, and I think we did a pretty good job pretending to be warm. Warm-hearted, anyway. 🙂

When I met Joshua and Chantel last year at their extended family photo session on Coronado, I was so impressed with the way these two families were preparing to blend so seamlessly. My experience at their wedding only emphasized the beauty of this Brady Bunch-like union, with Josh’s two boys, and Chantel’s three girls making them one big, happy family. Not only do Joshua and Chantel love each other deeply, but their children get along so wonderfully! It was fun to see the boys and girls laughing and playing together at the reception. Congratulations to Joshua, Chantel . . . and all the kids!

After freezing my toes on the cold beach last night, I thought it was time for a throw-back to summer. This is one of my favorite sessions of July, just after a week of leftover June gloom. The weather cleared up beautifully that night, just in time for our Hotel del Coronado beach session with this Arkansas family.

This fun family knew exactly the look they were going for — formal clothing, informal posing! I love the result of their vision! Such a fun session, and I only had to make them say “mustard” to get a smile. The whole family hates the stuff. 🙂

This Kansas family was vacationing at the Lodge at Torrey Pines, but we met at the Del for their session, and we all had a blast on the beach! I especially loved the silhouettes from their session.

This sweet couple, originally from Japan, is spending a year in San Diego and wanted to commemorate the time with photos on the beach. Yuka chose the most beautiful skirt for our session, and she was gorgeous in the sunset light!

This time of year, beach photography can be a harrowing experience. The beach is supposed to be WARM — but sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes it is 50 degrees at 6:00 in the morning, and your clients are awesome and they PRETEND to be warm (even the 4-year-old) and you get warm *looking* photos, even if it’s actually only 50 degrees. It’s a good thing this family is from South Dakota! They did a great job of pretending (and a great job of choosing fun, bright, colorful clothing!), and I love how their early-morning, super-cold beach session turned out!

This sweet girl had so many expressions and was just absolutely entranced by the ocean!
