At the beginning of June, just before little Atticus and his family went to New York for more intensive treatments for his Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, Melanie Monroe Photography and I had the chance to capture them on vacation here in San Diego.  This is an incredible family with four amazing kiddos.  Please consider helping Atticus’s family with the harrowing expenses that accompany Atticus’s treatment and moving a family of six (including a four-month-old) to New York.  Most of all, please pray that Atticus’s little body will respond to the treatment and that he will be healed.

The beautiful and accomplished Karen Bates (co-founder of Military Home Loans) is launching a new business, and we worked together recently to make some headshots for her new web site. Karen wanted custom photos for her new training business, Juggling with Fire, so we brainstormed for fire-themed ideas and were really pleased with the results! The s’mores fire pits at the beautiful Hotel del Coronado made the perfect venue for our session.  We started out with some poses by the water and then joined Karen’s family and friends for s’mores.

A Salute to the Good Dads Through San Diego Beach Photography

2015-06-20_0035.jpg
As I contemplated a Father’s Day blog and started going through my recent sessions to find these portraits of fathers, I realized how many different kinds of dads there are . . . In the last year I’ve photographed new dads, dads of toddlers, military dads prepping for deployment, stay-at-home dads, work-from-home dads, work-at-work dads, goofy dads, serious dads, dads-of-one, dads-of-six, dads of kids with special needs, and the dad of a child battling cancer. Common denominator – these dads sure love their kids, and their kids know it. Happy Father’s Day to all the good dads!

Beautiful Blue Sky Day at Coronado Beach

Well, I have to admit to being a bit of a light snob – as in, I will do everything I can to start a beach session in the hour before sunset, and no other time! This family already had plans for the “golden hour,” so we started over two hours before sunset, and we worked it out! I love how their blue-sky session turned out!

Kameron & Family Photos in Balboa Park | Amy Gray Photography

It was great to meet baby Kameron and his mom and dad at Balboa Park a few weeks ago. The plan was to play up the fun architecture of the area, which we did . . . but we got a little distracted by an island of flowers that made a beautiful backdrop for Kameron’s big boy sitting-up photos, just as the sun was setting. So pretty!Baby Photography | Balboa Park San Diego Infant Photos

Lifestyle photography aims to capture the everyday beauty of real life through a more photojournalistic approach to a session, with a family’s home as the location. I love it! Almost five-year-old A and little sister R were so comfortable and happy in their home environment that they welcomed me right in, showed me all their stuff, and gave me lots smiles while playing and reading with Mom and Dad. I’m excited that they’ll have these precious, authentic images of their childhood!

Father and Son Man-to-Man

San Diego Family Photos in the Park by Amy Gray Photography

I do so many beach sessions that sometimes I forget how much I enjoy the occasional field shoot! This local family preferred more of a park look over the beach, so we headed out east and took advantage of all the beautiful green the recent rains left us. The kids were all wonderful, and I love the family connections and personalities captured in this session!
