Mother & Son Freedom | San Diego Beach Photos by Amy Gray
It was such a joy to celebrate Freedom’s second birthday with his mom Meredith. They braved a little cold and a few waves to get right into my favorite light. Happy Birthday, Freedom!

This family was most interested in getting one-year-old photos of their youngest, but all three children were so beautiful and cooperative and fun to photograph! That evening I got a crash-course (or should I say “splash-course”?) in the new Coronado shoreline, which got rearranged a bit because of El Nino. It’s all about dodging the waves, and this family got pretty wet as a result. There are some pretty fun outtakes from this session. They were GREAT sports, though, and we all love the results! Check out the last photos of their sandy and adorable little girl.

This Washington state family did such a wonderful job of planning for their session! I loved our time making these images on the beach, and we are all so excited about the results. Such fun light that evening!

What a sweet engaged couple!! Rachel was visiting Coronado while Phil is stationed here, and they were game for whatever crazy beach photo ideas I had to throw at them. By the end of their session, we were completely drenched (and I was considering an underwater housing for my camera), and had visited the sunken ship wayyyy down the beach. A memorable session, indeed!

Back in January, the El Niño rains swept away a lot of the sand from Coronado beach, and my favorite lifeguard tower is hidden for safe-keeping until the sand comes back. In the meantime, the Sandcastle Man is making good use of the remaining sand, creating these gorgeous castles day after day. This Ohio family was visiting in Solana Beach but traveled down to Coronado for their mom’s birthday photo session. I was glad this castle was there to create a fun backdrop (and some shade!) on a bright February day. The family was equally fun! We had a blast!

This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure of photographing the T family from Arizona, and both sessions took place on beautiful Coronado beach. Weather conditions were completely different, though, so each session has its own distinct look. That’s what I enjoy most about beach photography . . . even with the same location, each session is all its own, depending on the weather, tides, and of course the subjects! Check out the blog from last time, and you’ll see how these boys have grown. Zachary is continuing to thrive, overcoming his congenital heart issues and doing all the fun stuff boys are supposed to do . . . like run around in the sand and splash in the waves.

This sweet extended family was just full of the most gorgeous children . . . all perfect models . . . and all totally soaked by the end. Just the way I like it!

Now that I’m not ruining clients’ Christmas cards by blogging their sessions, it’s fun to look back at the very-busy month of November! This La Jolla family celebrated their baby’s first birthday with a beach session on Coronado. Their little one loved the sand and was even up for a little horseback riding on the shore. Adorable baby!! I hope I see them again soon!

Or, at least, a senior PHOTOGRAPHER’s delight. 🙂 I loved photographing Silas last week, along with his guitar and his little brother. A very low tide gave us lots of beautiful shiny sand to play with, and the gorgeous sunset made the sky beet red just as the sun went down. To top it all off, I saw the green flash for the second time in just a few months! This is a session I’ll remember for a long time!

This Tennessee family is so special to me, and I love watching little Summer grow! (Check out our 2013 Coronado session, here.) This year, Summer got a baby sister, Hallie, whom she obviously adores. So many kisses for sister!! It was a cold winter day on Coronado, but sunny, and I think we did a pretty good job pretending to be warm. Warm-hearted, anyway. 🙂

When I met Joshua and Chantel last year at their extended family photo session on Coronado, I was so impressed with the way these two families were preparing to blend so seamlessly. My experience at their wedding only emphasized the beauty of this Brady Bunch-like union, with Josh’s two boys, and Chantel’s three girls making them one big, happy family. Not only do Joshua and Chantel love each other deeply, but their children get along so wonderfully! It was fun to see the boys and girls laughing and playing together at the reception. Congratulations to Joshua, Chantel . . . and all the kids!
