Thank you to all who voted in my little survey to see which of the kids’ images should go on the wall at our mom’s house this year!

Thank you to all who voted in my little survey to see which of the kids’ images should go on the wall at our mom’s house this year!

These kids are growing up!! Since the youngest was two, my sister Melanie Monroe and I have been photographing our four children as a gift to our mom on her birthday each June.

The light was amazing for this session at the Hotel del Coronado, and I loved seeing the sweet interactions between the two cousins and their grandma. Also . . . SUCH a beautiful dress!!

I got to photograph this family again this week, and I went back to the archives to find their session from two years ago. I hadn’t blogged it then, but I loved reliving those memories of that low-tide night at the Del and their two spunky girls.

Donna was a beautiful bride, and I was so excited to be there to see her tie the knot with her “Mr. Wonderful,” Tom. Donna and I have been friends for about ten years, since I stood her up for an interview with Marion’s Childcare. She was gracious and patient and quickly became one of the best caregivers EVER. She has been a huge blessing in my life, and I was thrilled that she asked me to photograph her “small elopement” with a few of her closest friends and family (read: massive mob of people). We headed across the way to the Bluewater Boathouse Restaurant afterward for the reception, and the evening was perfect all around.

This dramatic senior’s session came with a dramatic sky! It was fun talking musical theater with this future theater major!

I loved meeting this fun San Diego family and capturing this special time in the life of their one-year-old. <3 Pure sweetness!

Believe it or not, all of these images were taken within two hours! It was sunny inland, where we started with our field session, and cloudy on the beach. Fortunately, this senior was beautiful everywhere!

Such an exciting session! When Kyle contacted me months ahead of time to see about our session, I could tell he was a planner! He arranged a session with his girlfriend Randi and her little boy, and he told me that he wanted to propose DURING the session! We worked out a signal so I’d know when he was ready to pop the question, and it was so much fun capturing Randi’s reaction! Congratulations to all three of you!

I just loved everything about this sweet family, with their five kids who were all happy to get a little wet in the waves. We all had a great time making these images! It was hard to choose favorites!

Dream session! Gorgeous sky, gorgeous senior!

You only turn thirteen once. When my daughter asked for a self-styled photo session for herself and two of her BFFs for her birthday, I thought of an area of town I have driven through hundreds of times, each time thinking “I bet that would make a good urban photo session spot.” I didn’t even scout it before we headed over there, girls all decked out in their favorite-color attire. They had a great time experimenting with the (rather out-of-character) “grungy, urban” look, and we were all amazed when we stumbled on huge graffiti art depicting Bible verses, a cross, and the words “Jesus Saves.” I couldn’t believe the way God set that up! Such grace. As Lissa embarks on her teen years, this photo session with her friends was a visual of how God shows up in the most unexpected places . . . and that light makes even un-pretty things beautiful.
