Family Portraits at the Beach
Getting caught up on blogging and it was fun to remember this sweet family of girls and the beautiful sky that evening.

I don’t often schedule morning sessions for two reasons: 1) The weather is impossible to predict at that time of day and 2) the only guarantee for good light is at dawn (and nobody wants to get up that early). For this session, we took a chance and started at 8, and it was beautiful!! I loved the light cloud cover and the mom’s styling choices. Such a fun, active session at the Hotel del Coronado!
It is such an honor to be there at a proposal and watch a man honor his future bride by surprising her with a beautiful ring. In this proposal, the ring was not the focus (since it was actually a piece of popcorn!), but the love between these two amazing people certainly was. I enjoyed meeting them both and hearing their story, and I have no doubt they have a long and happy life together to look forward to!
I know a blessing when I see one, and the sky the evening of this session was a big one! Cloudy-but-not-too-cloudy skies give ultimate flexibility for backgrounds and the most beautiful lighting situations, and I was thankful (bordering-on-giddy) the whole time. Having a beautiful family to shoot, with two little girls in spinning dresses and one little boy in a hat, was icing on top. Love it!
Sweet little spinning girl on the shore! Just my favorite kind of session. It was so much fun running into this family again a few days later when I was back at the Hotel del Coronado to shoot another session! Serendipity!
This is the second time I’ve photographed this beautiful pair. Mom wanted photos of her little girl, spinning happily on the beach, and she bought JUST the dress for it!
Although my sister (Melanie Monroe Photography) is the twin specialist in our family (since she has some herself), I have photographed my share of twins . . . three or four sets this summer alone! This adorable duo from Switzerland had a blast on the beach at sunset, and I loved seeing their reactions to the sand, the surf, and my little toy boat. What a beautiful family!!
This fun family had so many children, I didn’t know what to do! So I brought my sister! Big thanks to Melanie Monroe Photography for assisting in wrangling kiddos and second-shooting this extended family session. We took as many photos in one hour, between the two of us, as we have taken at some all-day weddings! Here’s a sample of some favorites:
I loved this evening on the beach, with these two sweet boys, the gorgeous sunset, and the low, low tide!
Jason did an amazing job of making his proposal to Nicole a memorable event! I loved meeting this sweet couple and getting to see her reactions!
This lovely family, originally from Romania, opted for a late afternoon session and got blue skies, puffy clouds, and a low, low tide! I love this combination, and Mom’s styling was perfect for the occasion!
This mom did a great job of choosing clothes for her family, and I love the carefree vibe of their session, along with the gorgeous light coming through the pier!
