What a pleasure to photograph our across-the-street neighbors, who are such a blessing in our lives. As our kids have gotten older, they have become close friends, and we had playdate after playdate during Christmas break. I loved getting to capture this fun-loving family at the beach at the Hotel del Coronado.
Now that half of this family lives in Tennessee, it’s especially important to preserve the “we’re-all-together” moments. We headed down to Coronado on one of the very busy days at the end of the year, when it was both windy and cold (by San Diego standards), and we tried our best to defy the weather and get some happy, warm-looking beach images to remind everyone of Christmas in San Diego. I think we succeeded!
My “normal” location at the Hotel del Coronado can get pretty busy right after Christmas, and I had some reservations about shooting there that week, especially when I found out that this family had lots of special memories up the coast a bit, at the Navy Lodge on Coronado. We decided to shoot there, instead, and what a great choice it was! Although we were FREEZING COLD, these Arizona natives put on a happy face, and we all enjoyed the beautiful sunset and 100% empty beach.
This extended family traveled from far and wide to all be in San Diego over the holidays, and I loved watching them make memories on the beach. The cousins might not see each other very often, but they sure know how to have fun when they’re together.
This local family met up with a gorgeous sunset, and I was pretty happy to be able to capture it. They are featured in the little video for the new website coming next month! Here’s a preview:
The Christmas tree was going up inside the hotel, and preparations for the ice skating rink were being made, but the temperatures were warm, the sun was up, the clouds were perfect, the shore was flat and clean, and reflection shots were the order of the day! This looks like a summer session, doesn’t it?
Usually I try to whittle down my blog posts to a reasonable number, but this family just made it too hard. I *loved* their Christmassy-festive session, and I feel so honored that they chose me to capture this very important time in their lives. Dad’s going to be gone for a long time, leaving behind his sweet wife, adorable daughter, and brand-new baby boy. These photos will be cherished in his absence, as he serves our country. I could only think that God honored his sacrifice . . . and theirs . . . with a beyond-beautiful sunset.
I love my local clients, especially when I get to take them out to the beach for the first time! These sweet girls had a great time at the Del! Here are just a few of mom’s favorites:
I just think this is the perfect session for a Thanksgiving-week blog!
This young dad had the perfect idea for his daughter’s birthday gift . . . a beach photo session during their stay in San Diego. She arrived as beautiful as could be, and while we concentrated on getting beautiful birthday portraits, Dad got in on the action as well, and I loved the dad-and-daughter shots!
I’m playing catch up with blogging right now because it’s portrait season, but I can’t wait any longer to put this beautiful session online. I just loved how this gorgeous mama styled everyone. Perfection!!
When Kimber contacted me for a session, I knew her name sounded familiar! I searched my old emails, and there it was . . . her family had used our family’s babysitting agency, Sitterwise, several years ago! It was great to get to meet Kimber and her family in person after working with them years before, and I wondered if she had found me through Sitterwise. Nope! She just did an old-fashioned Google search for beach photography. It was fun to share the connection with her as we ran around beautiful Coronado beach and made some sweet memories for her family. It’s a small world!
