I first photographed Mindy and her family in July of 2015, and I was delighted when they asked for another session this year. Their family has grown a lot! They added another son, and their eldest is all grown up and wasn’t able to be there for the vacation, so the then-and-now photos both show three handsome boys. Mindy was kind enough to give me the story of their trip to San Diego.
When Jennifer, Delaney’s mom, contacted me about setting up a beach photography session for Delaney’s second birthday, I was immediately excited to meet and photograph this family. I’ll let Jennifer tell the story: “Delaney was born with Spina Bifida, so we had a challenging and scary pregnancy experience which included having fetal surgery to repair Delaney’s back before she was born. The surgery was done at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, one of the only hospitals in the country that does fetal surgery for Spina Bifida repair. It is an amazing hospital and the surgical team was incredible. Delaney was born (early) there and spent ten weeks in the NICU.”
My family of six started our vacation in San Diego. The evening of the day we arrived we had Amy take our family photos. We loved our time and session! San Diego is a great city and we kept busy for the few days we were there before we went on to Newport, then to San Francisco. While visiting San Diego we stayed at Marriott Club Pulse. We visited the Safari Park and did a behind the scenes Elephant and Friends tour (amazing). We also visited Old Town and the USS Midway. Of course we couldn’t leave without donuts from The Donut Bar.
My San Diego local client Jill was so excited about her family photos at the Hotel del Coronado and described them as “happy, light, and bright!” I love that, and I love looking at and remembering her session. She has a gorgeous family – four good-lookin’ kiddos with fun and playful personalities, perfect for enjoying a beautiful, sunny evening on the glassy shore at the Del.
Since my son is a very energetic, ocean obsessed four-year-old boy, I was extremely concerned he would immediately submerge into the water. The day of the shoot, he skipped his nap, so I just knew that it would be a trying experience. As soon as we arrived at the lifeguard tower, toes in the sand, we hit the ground RUNNING . . . and then there was Amy. Aside from her absolute professionalism, her magic not only with the camera but with children, she consistently comforted me throughout our session.
Sarah’s family lives in the San Diego area, so her husband Brendan’s gift to her for her 30th birthday was a night at the Del and a family photo session on the beach. Here’s a peek into her birthday session.
Rachel and her husband celebrated their 15th anniversary with a trip to San Diego, complete with a photoshoot on the beach. Here’s her story of their photography experience:
Last fall, I had the pleasure of photographing Dyna and Kevin Jones of BLISS Senior Care. They have founded a non-profit program to provide free care to low-income seniors, and it is changing the lives of some very special people in our community.
Khaliq had a conference to attend in San Deigo, and we have never been, so we decided to make a trip out of it! Being six months pregnant with our second child, we wanted to take our son on a trip before his brother or sister arrives. We stayed near the convention center where Khaliq’s conference was. He attended a few events at his conference, and we also checked out the great attractions, including Legoland, Sea World, the Zoo. We got beautiful weather and were so happy to enjoy the California sun, especially because it snowed at home in Canada before we left.
Katelyn is a high school student graduating this year, and she loves her special classes and friends at school. She has a joy-filled, sweet personality, but photos can be challenging for her. I was so glad that we were able to capture her spirit in her senior photos.
Our family came together (some of us from out of town) to San Diego to celebrate the holiday season. With young kids across the family, it is hard to get everyone together and we wanted to take advantage of the opportunity with a memorable photo shoot.
Photographers in San Diego are destined to meet a friend when they show up for a session at Scripps Pier! It is like a photography Mecca, calling us because of the leading lines and potential for amazing sunset light!
