The W family moved to San Diego when both mom and dad were serving in the Navy, and they and the kids loved it enough to retire here! I really enjoyed getting to know this fun and loving crew, with their little cheerleading tumbler and kind and gracious teens. Also—I’m a big fan of the classic blue and beige color combo they chose for their session in Balboa Park.
Jessica and Brandon and their two adorable kiddos, Hudson and Hadley, met me at Steele Canyon Bridge for a holiday session just after Thanksgiving. I may have accidentally said something about their efforts to repopulate the world with redheads. They had probably never heard any cracks like that ever before. Anyway . . .
It’s a pretty incredible blessing to get to document God’s answered prayers. Little Joshua is one of those—a long-awaited child who arrived 17 years after his mom and dad tied the knot. I knew he was a delightful surprise, so I asked Bethany for his story. She sent me the sweetest letter she wrote to him when she was expecting. Bethany is a gifted writer, so I couldn’t cut it down. Beautiful Ali’s senior photos will be unlike most in her graduating class this year! She’s from Omaha, Nebraska, so beach portraits are especially unique and fun. I’m so glad she and her three adorable outfits found such a gorgeous day on the beach at Crystal Pier . . . beautful sky, low tide happiness, and sparkly light to make everything glow. Love, love, love!
It has become a fall tradition to get together with the Butler family, and this seventh year we met at Crystal Pier. Sarah was my daughter’s wonderful kindergarten teacher, and her two boys came along a few years after that. We always work our photography around a lively conversation about kids, school, current events, and more! This year the sailboat and beach ball made for a little friendly competition . . . perfect for getting the boys’ natural expressions
The perfect location for this family, Steele Canyon Bridge in Rancho San Diego provided a glorious green backdrop. This was my fourth time photographing these two boys, and I love seeing how they’re growing up. So much personality!

Sonia’s family is always a blast to photograph, and this time I had the pleasure of focusing on beautiful Sonia for her senior portraits in Balboa Park.
Quite possibly the sweetest thing ever! Matthew asked for Jayneann’s hand . . . again, since they’ve been married for years . . . during a family portrait session with their godkids. I first met this couple during their friend Lydia’s wedding, where Matt was officiating and Jayneann was the matron of honor and created the floral arrangements. I loved that they wanted to experience another fun beach session to celebrate their love for one another!
Sometimes the last-minute portrait sessions are the best! Carrie called me when they were already staying at the Hotel del Coronado, wondering about a family session with her husband and two littles. What a delight this family was, and we were all thrilled with the results. I can’t wait to see them again in a year or two!
These San Diego locals squeezed this photo session in right before school started, and I’m so glad they made it a priority! Lives are busy with activities and homework, but at these ages, things are changing fast! Teens and tweens need portraits just as much as the little ones. <3
