Jennifer and Noah are looking forward to tying the knot soon, and we celebrated their engagement and their soon-to-be blended family with a portrait session in Balboa Park. With their families on opposite coasts, they do a lot of travel, and it was a treat for everyone to be together. I loved Jennifer’s styling so much! Balboa Park is the perfect spot for a dressy, formal session, and she nailed it!
This summer I had the pleasure of photographing Amanda Fagan in preparation for the launch of her new EP, “Love, Jane.” We went for a charming regency feel to coordinate with this musical nod to Jane Austen. Amanda, a self-described Austen fan, has woven her passion for classic literature into her music. The EP features six songs inspired by Austen’s novels, and it’s set for release in February, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
San Diego locals Kendra and Gabe and I have met up on Coronado every year since 2016, and I love watching their family grow! This year Kendra reported that the complete insanity of having three boys and a little girl all within six years of each other has actually settled down a bit! Read up on their family below…
Daniela’s beautiful family needed to schedule their photos quickly since their Navy dad was shipping out for the holiday season. Fortunately, the weekend they were available was perfection! Gorgeous, buttery sunset light, low tides, warm weather. The girls were perfect models, and I love Daniela’s styling! I’m so glad we got to make these memories. I loved Heidi’s vision for her family’s holiday portraits at the Del! They were there for Thanksgiving, and when she sent me a photo of their outfits ahead of time, I knew we had an amazing session in store! This morning session was a fun challenge . . . highlighting the hotel’s Victorian charm while also capturing the family’s various personalities and genuine affection for one another. The P family comes all the way from Canada to visit San Diego, and we actually met on Coronado this year EXACTLY five years to the day from our first meeting back in 2018. In between we did a session at Presidio Park, but we were all happy to be back on the beach this time . . . especially since the tides were pristine and the skies were showing off! Nicole wrote me the sweetest review when she got her photos back this time.
The Ray family and I go way back, and I have loved their sessions and the girls’ flouncy dresses every time I’ve photographed them! This session, in particular, reminded me of the day I met them on the beach at Coronado five years ago(https://amygrayphotography.com/san-diego-photographers-coronado-photographer/). All the spinning, all the tulle, all the fun! We had a bonus this year with a spectacular sunset and super low tide combining for some of my favorite silhouettes(https://amygrayphotography.com/how-to-capture-a-sunset-silhouette-2/) ever. Even though this Petit session took place during a very pivotal game of the World Series (and dad is a big Texas fan!), I think everyone is happy we ran around the beach that night.
It was wonderful to see Ivy and her crew again this year! Last time was two years ago, and our first session was back in 2019, when their youngest was just a baby. Time flies!! Ivy suggested we go for a holiday theme, so I pulled out my red wagon and we decorated a Christmas tree on the beach.
Congratulations to Matt and Lauren on their engagement! Matt was well-prepared, and Lauren was very surprised! What a lovely and kind couple. Blessings on your coming marriage!
Piper and her family are San Diego natives, so the beach was the perfect spot for her senior portraits. We chose Seagrove Park in Del Mar and enjoyed the evening light behind the trees as we waited for the sun to go down. Then we headed for the beach and frolicked in the waves. Piper was the perfect model, and I love the favorites she chose!
Two 60th birthdays, a 90th birthday, a first birthday, and an anniversary set the stage for a fun family vacation at the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, and it needed to be commemorated! I encouraged Jessica and her family to drive up to Pacific Beach for their portraits and enjoy the great sunset light near Crystal Pier. We all had a great time watching the little ones take in the beach with all its sights and sounds.
Every day in the early fall, the Coronado sunset sun creeps closer to the end of Point Loma, and I watch as the real change in seasons edges closer. San Diego summers last and last, and some of my favorite “summer” sessions happen in September and October, when the light is still warm and glowy and the empty beaches make a perfect backdrop for a fun session like this. The first photograph that beautiful evening was taken before I even met my sweet clients! As I arrived at our meeting place, they were checking out a sandy hill. I quickly took this candid silhouette shot, which became one of their favorites—and mine.
