A “See You Later” Session

Last week, I said “see you later” to some wonderful family friends, who are relocating to Virginia. They are important in so many ways, but it is significant that they are actually the very FIRST family I ever photographed on the beach at the Hotel del Coronado – way back in November of 2009, when I was just getting started in photography. Looking back, it seems I haven’t changed much . . . still drenching my clients seven years later! THEY have changed, though! Their tiny boys are big kids now, and their 6-year-old girl is now a beautiful teen! They have been through some things in the last seven years, but Keri’s joyful, optimistic personality and Mike’s faithful love for and devotion to his family have made them stronger and able to tackle this next chapter in their lives with excitement and enthusiasm. I’m so glad I had this chance to see Keri, Mike, Rylee, Zach, and Colby again and make some special images of them enjoying one of their favorite spots in San Diego. As they reach their new home in Virginia today, my thoughts and prayers are with them for many wonderful new adventures.

Happy Father’s Day 2016

When it comes to portrait photography, sometimes the dads are a little . . . hesitant. Sometimes they think they’ll be done before the kids are. Sometimes they don’t like getting their good pants wet, and sometimes they are just doing it because their wife promised them a nice dinner after.

But mostly not. There’s something about the beach, in particular, that brings out the best in a dad – sometimes even against their will.  Looking back at this last year’s sessions, it is so much fun to see the many ways dads connect with their kids.  Happy Father’s Day to the new dads and experienced dads, young dads and older dads, dads to newly-adopted kiddos and newborns and special needs kids and toddlers and teens . . . and to the wonderful grandfathers out there, too.  May your day be filled with happy memories like these.

Coronado Beach Photography | Hotel del Coronado

This family was most interested in getting one-year-old photos of their youngest, but all three children were so beautiful and cooperative and fun to photograph! That evening I got a crash-course (or should I say “splash-course”?) in the new Coronado shoreline, which got rearranged a bit because of El Nino. It’s all about dodging the waves, and this family got pretty wet as a result. There are some pretty fun outtakes from this session. They were GREAT sports, though, and we all love the results! Check out the last photos of their adorable, sandy little girl.San Diego Photographer
