Balboa Park Family Portraits | Capturing a Season

It was wonderful to photograph the Sundermeyers again this summer after four eventful years. Seana recently finished her doctoral degree in teaching English, so she had wonderful words for me when I asked her to describe her family and our session together.

Candid Family Fun on the Beach | La Jolla’s Best Sky of the Year

Sometimes it’s too bright on the beach to start a session right on the shore, but I was thrilled to find this incredible sky hovering over La Jolla at just the right time! Portia and her guys, including two sets of adorable boys, were most interested in candid photos, so we spent most of our time doing what I love best—running all over the place and playing games on the shore. I think I will remember this session forever.

Beach Family Portraits at the Hotel del Coronado | Professional Photography

JT’s family was ready for a new round of portraits, since their last session was four years ago during his proposal. It was a beautiful, sunny day, and they were a dream to photograph in the buttery light. We got all the sweet sister, daddy-daughter, and step-mom poses, along with some fun couple shots of the not-so-newlyweds!

Brooklyn’s Coronado Senior Session | San Diego Beach Photographer

Brooklyn came all the way from Wisconsin and made a point to get senior portraits while she was on Coronado. She was the perfect model, and I tried out ALLL the poses with her, including a really fun long-exposure shot at the end. Love that two of her favorites were photos with her mom. ❤️

Family Running on the Shore in San Diego

Family Portraits at Crystal Pier | San Diego Photographer

Lisa said she would be back again this year, and she was true to her word! I loved meeting this New York family last year at the Hotel del Coronado, and this year, though they were staying in La Jolla(https://lajollabythesea.com/), she took my advice and we shot at Crystal Pier(http://www.crystalpier.com/) in Pacific Beach(https://amygrayphotography.com/gallery/beach/crystal-pier-pacific-beach/). Her family was decked out in blue check gingham, and although some parties were not too happy about getting in the water, you can’t tell it from the photos, can you? It was a memorable time for sure, and I love the way their family interacts with each other in such a fun way. Hope to see them again in 2024!

Ana & Matthew’s Grad Portraits | San Diego State and Coronado Beach

Ana graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in Nutrition, and she and Matthew celebrated with a photo session on campus at Hepner Hall and then on Coronado Beach. The June gloom broke up just as the sun went down, and we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset on the shore.

Ben’s Proposal to Ashleigh at the Hotel del Coronado

When Ben contacted me about proposing to Ashleigh at the Hotel del Coronado, he used the words “devious,” “elaborate,” and “scheme.” I was IN! All of that sounded like a ton of fun, and I couldn’t wait to see Ashleigh’s reaction. When the day came, Ashleigh was appropriately surprised, she answered in the affirmative, their dog was incredibly cute, and we all had a blast getting some sweet engagement portraits.

Balboa Park Family Portraits San Diego | Sophie & Celine

Ahh, sweet Sophie! I have loved photographing her since she was just a tiny girl, running around the shore on Coronado. We’ve been to the Del, Presidio Park, Steele Canyon Bridge, back to the Del . . . and this time we met up at Balboa Park. It had been a few years since our last session, and I was delighted to see how Sophie has grown into a beautiful young lady in the meantime! Her spunky, fun-loving nature has entered her tween years intact, and she loves her mama just as much as she always has.

Anna’s Senior Portraits | Balboa Park San Diego Photography

Anna is a senior this year, and I’d been looking forward to her photo session for a long time! After photographing her family over the years, it was fun to have a session specifically for Anna and to get to know her a little better! Anna has such a joyful, authentic personality, and I’m pretty sure sunshine follows her wherever she goes. She was recently named Military Child of the Year for the Air Force and has been featured in Brio, a faith-based magazine for teen girls. They talked with her about being a military kid, growing up with a sibling with special needs, and her dream to help others through a career in the medical field. I have no doubt that Anna will be huge blessing to everyone she comes in contact with as she sets out on her new adventures after high school!

University of San Diego Graduation Portraits | Ava’s Grad Session

It was a delight to meet USD Creative Writing major Ava in the frenzied few days before graduation! She had received her regalia just that day and came to her session straight from one of her final classes of the semester. We raced the sun and got some gorgeous shots of her celebrating her accomplishment, plus some headshots appropriate for her next step in life. Congratulations, Ava!!

Maisy’s Senior Session | San Diego Senior Portrait Photographer

My first night back in San Diego after 9 days on the East Coast, I was right where I wanted to be . . . out on the beach, doing senior portraits! Maisy came all the way from Palm Springs for photos at Crystal Pier, and I loved getting to know her and celebrating the end of her senior year! Congrats, Maisy!!
